Symptoms of Vitiligo
Due to depigmentation o the skin, skin shows white patches. These whitish patches in real are the symptoms of the disease. These patches are more common in sun-exposed areas. Vitiligo generally appears in one of three patterns. In one pattern (focal pattern), the depigmentation is limited to one or only a few areas. Some people develop depigmented patches on only one side of their bodies (segmental pattern). But for most people who have vitiligo, depigmentation occurs on different parts of the body (generalized pattern). In addition to white patches on the skin, people with vitiligo may have premature graying of the scalp hair, eyelashes, eyebrows, and beard. People with dark skin may notice a loss of color inside their mouths.
Which body part is affected mostly from Vitiligo?
Although vitiligo(white patches) can be spread on all body parts, but the most affected areas of these patches are face, hands, arms, knees, feet’s. The mucous membranes (tissues that line the inside of the mouth and nose and genital and rectal areas), and the retina (inner layer of the eyeball) are destroyed, due to this disease. Even the hairs on affected areas are also turns in to white.
Age & Gender:
Vitiligo can be found in both male & female gender, of any age.

Causes of Vitiligo
The major cause of vitiligo is depigmentation of skin. In order to loss of pigmentation other factors linked with it, are

  • - Heredity

  • - Deficiency of nutritional factors

  • - Taking of anti-bodies in vital amount

  • - Getting a lot of vaccinations

  • - Immune system disorder

  • - Emotional distress

  • - Sun exposure or sun burn

  • - Physical injury including cuts

  • - Git factors

  • - Endocrinal disorders


  • Spreading of vitiligo patches
            
    There is no way to predict whether vitiligo will be spread or not. Vitiligo skin disorder is progressive in mode, thus as the times flow these patches can be spread on all over the body. The period of spreading of white patches on different or on all body is depends on the patient’s condition. It can be spread slowly or rapidly.


    Diagnosis of Vitiligo
    It is very easy to diagnose a vitiligo disease. White spots or patches simply show that a person is indulging in vitiligo. If a doctor suspects that a person has vitiligo, he or she usually begins by asking the person about his or her medical history.

    Imperative factors in a person's medical history are:

  • - A family history of vitiligo

  • - Sunburn or sun exposure (UV rays)

  • - Other skin disorder, associated along with vitiligo such as diabetes, Halo naevi etc

    A vitiligo patient start considers himself inferior to others, due to the appearance of the disease, and loses his confidence. People around him isolate him, or ignore him. In ancient time, it was supposed that there is no cure or treatment is available for the disease, but luckily now medical science discover many therapies or treatments that can help a patient to fight against its disease.

    In this sense, several strategies that can help a person to cope with vitiligo are:

  • - Patient should consult a vitiligo specialist doctor

  • - Doctor should provide emotional support to his patient

  • - Patients need to let their doctors to know if they are suffering with depress feelings

  • - Patients should also learn as much as possible about the disorder and treatment choices so that they
          can participate in making important decisions

  • Treatment Options for vitiligo  
         
    The goal of treating vitiligo disease is to reproduce the pigments cells in patient’s skin. Therapy for vitiligo takes a long time--it usually must be continued for 6 to 18 months. The choice of therapy depends on the number of white patches and how widespread they are and on the patient's preference for treatment. Each patient responds differently to therapy, and a particular treatment may not work for everyone.
